Getting Life in Balance

Tuesday, July 10th, 2007

Have you ever felt like you have so many things to do that you can’t get any of them done because you don’t know where to start?? Or do you have so many things to do that you know most of them probably fall through the cracks? That’s where I seem to stay. I have so many things going through my mind that I get overwhelmed and find it hard to keep everything straight. Running a business, homeschooling my children, managing a home, having a social life… It all takes time and often seems to keep me much busier than I really want to be. I often feel that my life is a whirlwind and everything is spinning out of control.

David Allen’s book Getting Things Done has been a life saver for me. He has an awesome system, often called GTD, to keep all the details in our lives written down so that our minds are free to really focus on the task at hand. But, I had trouble putting his ideas into practice without a tool to help me keep his system in place.

Recently I started using a free program called Thinking Rock that implements the GTD method really well. It’s helped me to keep all my projects, next actions, and details of my life in order. Now that I don’t have to worry about anything falling through the cracks, it leaves my mind free to concentrate on the task at hand and get more done in less time. I feel that my mind is no longer chaotic but empty of all the little details that I was afraid I would forget. They are all written down and kept in Thinking Rock where I regularly review everything that I used to keep stored in my brain. No wonder I was SO tired!

I’ve been really impressed with Thinking Rock and encourage you to check it out!
